As an emerging global biopharmaceutical enterprise, focussed on delivering affordable healthcare, Biocon’s commitment goes beyond developing new medicines. Corporate Social Responsibility has been an integral part of the business since inception. Biocon is engaged in providing sustainable solutions to address the myriad health challenges faced by the country as a part of its corporate social responsibility.
Dr. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, founder and chairperson of Biocon, has always generously funded deserving projects that helped mainstream underserved sections of rural and urban India. In December 2004 she established Biocon Foundation, to streamline her philanthropy and ensure that her donations were used judiciously and effectively and at the same time came closer to the overarching objective of eradicating poverty in the country. A critical factor in eradicating poverty is to move from pure philanthropy to sustainable philanthropy – we are trying to create affordable services which can stand the test of time.
Biocon Foundation has adopted an integrated approach to make an enduring impact on society by selecting three areas of intervention- healthcare, education and civic infrastructure.
Biocon Foundation brings effective primary healthcare services to the doorstep of less privileged rural and urban sectors of India. By establishing primary healthcare centres, actively creating awareness about disease prevention, public health and sanitation, building civic infrastructure and initiating education programs, the foundation aims to empower under-served communities.
